Recon tailgate light bars are not legal in all states. I KNOW for a fact that they are illegal in Virginia they may be approved by National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations (NHSTA) but, according to Virginia State Inspection Manual they MUST have SAE or DOT viewed on the lens of the light to be legal. I bought quite a few things from Recon and love all of it, I got 2 tailgate light bars (one for each of my trucks) and found out they wouldn't pass the state inspection by having the local state inspector look at Recon's website and then calling The State Inspection Office of the Virginia State Police. I liked them so much I kept them and put one to light up the bed of my truck and the other under the hood of my show truck, both using switches to be turned on. If they ever get SAE DOT Approved I will buy 2 more.
